Michael Elkan studied photography and architectural design in the United Kingdom at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London. Michael’s photography reflects his training and perspective as an architect and, simultaneously, seeks to highlight our natural world’s astounding beauty and increasing fragility.
When Michael is not photographing buildings and urban environments, he is particularly attracted to the earth’s polar, desert, and coastal regions. However, the effects of our industrial activities are increasingly reaching these remote, pristine environments.
The elemental beauty of these landscapes appeals to Michael’s contemplative sensibilities. His minimalist aesthetic aims to communicate tranquility and transcendence, impermanence and change, through his experience of solitude and silence in these beautiful, liminal locations.
